Fall Weekends

I wish I was able to experience true fall weather- I really miss it! It doesn't exist in L.A., but luckily, I have family and friends back in New England to tell me all about the leaves and colors changing, and I can live vicariously through images like these. I'm looking forward to boots, scarves, plaids and Barbour jackets. You can take the girl out of Connecticut, but you can't take Connecticut out of the girl. Bon weekend!

Roll & Hill 'Bluff City' Lighting

I came across these 'Bluff City' light fixtures on Roll & Hill's site this morning and couldn't stop thinking about them. First of all, because of that color green, and second of all, because they're just so cool. I usually hate industrial style design, but I feel like these could be put in different types of rooms and not be overly technical and modern (which I don't love). Shop here.

French Fries

Are my favorite. Before I moved to L.A., my friend Alexander Martel back in New York poked fun at my blog saying that I only write about nice stuff, and that he's waiting for the day where I drunk post about how much I love cheese fries with gravy. Well, that's not going to happen, but I will share these drool-worthy images of french fries. Miss you, Rabbit!

Fiddle Leaf Fig Trees

Leave it to interior designers to make a tree chic. Fiddle Leaf Trees seem to be popping up everywhere. You can actually pick one up for pretty cheap at Home Depot, so don't bother splurging on the same thing at your overpriced local flower shop. I really love the wide, elephant ear look the leaves have, and I actually prefer the off-kilter aesthetic of having just one in a room instead of the symmetry of two.

Rockassins by Furni

Moccasins are pretty cool. Especially when they're turned into loafers! These handmade-in-Montreal loafers are refreshingly different than the run of the mill Topsiders that I'm so bored of seeing. Try something new, eh? Shop here

Brass Lighting

I'm really into brass lamps. Like, big time. I wish had one of these dashing monogrammed lamps for my bedside table. There's something very stately about them- they have that panache that doesn't go out of style. By (who else?) Partners & Spade for Roll & Hill

St. George Spirits

Gin. It's one of those things I just don't get along with. Along with tequila.. and now that I think about it, most other dark liquors. Don't get me wrong, this doesn't mean I don't dabble from time to time. Especially when the packaging is so great, I have no problem displaying pretty bottles of poisons I don't drink on my bar cart even if only consumed by guests.

Just east of San Francisco is the Alameda, California-based distillery, St. George Spirits. Last month, they introduced three new gins to their roster. Terroir (shown below) was inspired by the California coast and contains notes of Douglas Fir, California Bay Laurel and California Sage; Botanivore is a mixture of 19 different botanicals described as herbacious and bright, and Dry Rye has twice as much juniper as the other two. Sounds like I need to invite some people over.

Object of Desire: Built by Wendy Popcorn Crew

I'm a sucker for dots- polkas and swiss, specifically. So when I saw this sweater from one of my favorite designers, it was love at first site.

I first fell in love with Build by Wendy my sophomore year of college while I was walking around Chinatown in Manhattan on a cloudy fall day. Their almost-hidden storefront is so unassuming, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a line worth following for many years to come. Calypso had a similar style to this a couple of years ago, but Built by Wendy does it right this season, especially with the button-up detail in the back. Cute enough to wear to work, and perfect for laid back winter weekends. Shop here.

Pink Doors

Who would have thought to do this? I've always assumed I would have a glossy black or (gasp!) glossy red front door. But pink? I'm not much of a 'pink' girl, but I can appreciate the design factor if it's done tastefully. This almost convinces me that you can do no wrong with any color on your front door. The more wrong it is, the more right!

You Should Watch This

I recently found a gold mine of inspiration: Vimeo's 'Featured Videos' and 'Editor's Picks' on my Apple TV. Just sit back, relax and watch them all in HD right on your TV at home. It's amazing (can you tell I work for Apple?). But onto this video- it's truly a 'must watch'. It's a story of love and dating told only through macro shots. So simple and and so beautiful. Directed and edited by Gustav Johansson.

The Beginning of the End of the Year

It's been about a month and a half since my last post, and that's just, well, not acceptable! This summer was filled with family vacations on Nantucket, beach volleyball, bike rides, concerts (Bon Iver was amazing), surf lessons, and finally learning how to cook and paint! Now that the fall is here I plan on doing much more of those last two things.

I bought a 48"x48" canvas a couple of weeks ago but couldn't figure out what I really wanted it to be. I've never painted anything before (other than my mother's white bed quilt with red nail polish when I was 5), so it was a little daunting. A recent visit to the LACMA inspired me. Franz Kline's black and white abstract expressionist paintings from the 1950's are my favorite in their permanent collection. There's something so constant and permanent about them. So, a glass of pinot noir and a couple of Coltrane albums later, I had 'Jackson Pollock-ed' the finishing touches. What do you think? I hope your Fall season is as inspiring as mine!

The Boot of the Season

The perfect flat, black leather, knee-length boot. It's the one thing I look for every fall and can never seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. Well, I found them! Loeffler Randall's Dana Ankle-Tie Flat Boot is everything I need to get me through the fall and winter. And since it's always sunny in L.A., I can wear they all the time. I really love that they're a little bit taller in the front so they go over your knee a bit. Shop here
