Pedro Almodovar: Women on the Verge

In 1988, Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar took the international film scene by storm when he debuted his comedy (now a cult classic) Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, a 48-hour snapshot of the romantically “challenged” lives of a group of women. I remember this being one of the first Spanish films that I fell in love with (...many years later). I've never been a fan of Broadway, but I want to see this!

J. Tillman's 'Firstborn.' Based in Seattle, Washington and member of the folky-pop band, Fleet Foxes. This mellow and austere gem is too good.

3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2011 RTW

There's always Style.com when you can't make it to New York's Fashion Week (sigh). It's one of the best Phillip Lim collections I've seen. A clean, neutral palette with layers of t-shirts, organza, tulle and lace. So good. Maybe it had something to do with Dries Van Noten as his show stylist and collection consultant? Maybe it was just those shoes. Oh, the shoes.

Independence Day 2010

So here we are Independence Day 2010! It is a great weekend to celebrate my moving to California. After a long seven years in New York City, I have a one way ticket on July 4 to start a new chapter of my life in the City of Angels.

I don't really know what to expect, but I think I like it that way. I haven't made a move like this yet in my life. If there is a time, the time is now! I couldn't be more excited. You know you've made a good decision when you can't think of anything else you would rather do. I will be posting periodically as I get settled in, so stay tuned and happy July 4th!

Calypso Cravings: Marrekesh Caftan

I'm big into bright yellow and orange style combos lately. Toana Barashi redesigned the modern pancho to include an intricate lace applique on silk. I, of course, think this piece would go great with white jeans- I never get tired of them! A recent conversation with my good friend Alex regarding my white jean obsession:

Alex: "Are you just moving to L.A. so you can wear white jeans all year round?"

Me: "I wear them all year round anyway."

Alex: "Let me rephrase- are you just moving to L.A. so you can get away with wearing white jeans all year round?"

Clic Bookstore & Gallery

One of the many, many places I will miss in Manhattan is Clic Bookstore & Gallery on Broome Street. Springing from a love of design, art and books, Clic features monthly shows by emerging photographers and stocks a curated selection of photography books.

Since first opening in St. Barth in 2008 (if this and Calypso St. Barth don't give you a reason to visit, I don't know what will!), Clic has expanded to three more locations in East Hampton and New York City. In addition to classics from icons Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon, Clic carries a number of hard-to-find volumes, limited editions from small presses, original signed copies, and they hold regular book signings.

After stopping in the shop on Broome Street a couple weeks ago (the East Hampton location is just as fab), I had the pleasure of viewing "Smash His Camera: The Notorious Photographs of Ron Galella"- a black and white photography exhibit from the original stalkerazzi. It will only be on display until June 30th, so be sure to stop by to see these rare images in person soon!

California Dreamin'

After seven years here in New York City, this Kat is picking up and heading West- for Los Angeles, California! I never thought I would end up there, but a twist of fate and a new job have led me there. I couldn't be more thrilled! Back to packing up the life I've known here on the East Coast- more to come!
